If her followers are interested, they are also able to preview her one-season show, “XOX Betsey Johnson”. Fans and fashion insiders get to see all of the inner-workings of her “comeback” to the spotlight of the NYC fashion world, along with a reality-star twist. Each viewer also gets exposure to Betsey’s daughter, Lulu Johnson, who brings a lifetime’s worth of fashion expertise while living amongst a fashion icon.

If you’re looking for a bold statement this fall season, check out Betsey’s Black Rose Red Flirty Dress. This look can be worn either while shopping in Rittenhouse, or simply having a night-out in Spruce Street Harbor Park with that special someone. Betsey’s clothing often makes what seems to be a basic pattern look elegant and original. Practicing all different mediums, her handbags have been known to “pop”, with items such as her Kitch Flashing Lights Taxi cross-body bag.

With a sense of character unlike anyone else, Betsey Johnson has been leading progressive fashion for over half-a-century. Starting from humble beginnings in the ‘youthquake’ fashion movement as a key figure in Andy Warhol’s underground scene, she makes a seemingly “over the top” style look chic, yet fun.

Like many contemporary fashion designers Johnson was struck by the hardships of the financial recession of 2009, ultimately filing for bankruptcy in 2012. Luckily, shoe designer and fashion mogul, Steve Madden, was able to purchase and revamp her brand in 2010, allowing Betsey to still create her one-of-a-kind pieces with a great financial backbone.

Zina Zegans, the Licensing and Fashion Director at Steve Madden (as well as my aunt), is one of the many people who helped bring Betsey's line back in style. Zina worked to bring Betsey Johnson’s vision into the twenty-first century with a whole new re-branding plan. Utilizing a wider fan base through social media, her flamboyant and fun style is easily accessible amongst the masses.
