Taking over the position as CEO is Stefan Larsson, the president of Old Navy. I know, that sounds random, but have you shopped at Old Navy recently? It’s not terrible! In fact ever since Larsson took over in 2012, Old Navy has been one of Gap’s best brands. Prior to his position at Old Navy, Larsson was an executive at H&M and is credited with bringing a level of attention to design that low-end, family apparel brands previously did not focus on.

When it comes to American fashion designers Ralph Lauren is hands down number one, right? I mean, he designs the uniforms our country wears to the Olympics.
And when you hear the name Ralph Lauren you might think preppy country clubs, polo shirts, and Kanye West. Yes, Kanye West. If you follow Kanye you know Ralph is basically Kanye’s man crush every day or his fashion father if you will, and Kanye is shaping up to be one of the most influential creatives of our generation (Kanye 2020), so when news broke that Ralph decided to step down as CEO, the fashion world took notice.
What is perhaps most interesting about the shift is that Lauren historically promoted talent from within. Some were expecting Ralph to pass the torch on to his son David Lauren who is the head of the company’s advertising and marketing, so bringing in Larsson was an unexpected change. Worth noting is that while Lauren is stepping down as CEO, he will still remain active as executive chairman and chief creative officer. Can’t wait to see how Larsson’s track record in mass retail and Swedish background will influence the classic Americana that is Ralph Lauren.
